Planning drywall skim coating
Assess adhesion, existing coatings and the desired level of smoothness under room lighting.
Options and tradeoffs
A skim coat can unify a worn or uneven wall surface when the underlying material is suitable. Discuss whether heavy texture or damaged areas need separate preparation before full-surface coating.
How to scope the work
The finisher checks adhesion and removes loose material before applying a thin continuous coat. Surface preparation and careful sanding matter as much as the coating when light falls across a broad wall.
Comparing estimates
Measure the entire surface being treated, including ceilings where applicable. Ask whether texture removal, adhesion preparation, primer and painting are included rather than assuming skim coating covers every stage.
After the project
Let the prepared surface cure as directed and use the specified primer before painting. Avoid aggressive cleaning of unfinished compound and keep the finish description for any future localized repairs.
